Ben Simmons was rather unimpressed at his first career 3-point make in the NBA, knocking down a jumper well beyond the 3-point stripe and swishing it through as the first half expired. The Philadelphia 76ers, who were already up by 38 points with seconds left in the second quarter, saw their franchise player gauge the distance, measure out his defender and pull up from 28 feet to beat the buzzer:

Simmons explained the feeling of hitting his first shot from beyond the arc:

“Time running down, I had the ball, so I had to take a shot,” he said, according to Paul Hudrick of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The crowd was chanting for Simmons to take the shot, anxious to see him that far away from the basket. But it didn't really feel any different to do it in a game than doing it in practice, as he has been for the last few weeks:

“I work every day, so to me, it shows,” said Simmons. “I’m in the gym every day putting in work, so I feel like it’s paying off.”

Ben Simmons looked confident taking and making his only 3-pointer of the night, a small step forward considering his previous hesitation to venture outside his comfort zone.

The 6-foot-10 point guard won't develop into a Ray Allen-like shooter just yet, but he's already making progress by shooting his shot in front of an NBA crowd that largely expects the fruits of his summer workouts to pay some dividends.
