The Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for a huge Game 7 on the road against the Toronto Raptors, with a lot at stake for a franchise that has gone through an immense amount of upheaval over the past few seasons.

After living through the experimental and interesting days of The Process, then seeing its general manager fired due to burner Twitter accounts in which he shamed and criticized his own players, the 76ers are now among the elite franchises in the Eastern Conference.

However, despite all that recent success over the past two seasons, Sixers head coach Brett Brown – who has been with the team through thick and thin as the coach for The Process and now for the playoffs – is in hot water, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times:

“Beyond the uncertain fates of Butler, Harris and the sharpshooting J.J. Redick, rumblings in league coaching circles have grown louder by the day that 76ers Coach Brett Brown needs an N.B.A. finals berth to keep his job. Brown, I’m told, has little chance of surviving a second-round exit.”

As you can see, the Sixers must defeat an extremely tough Raptors team on the road in order to potentially save Brown’s job. Even if they do that, the 76ers must defeat an ascendant Milwaukee Bucks team in the Eastern Conference Finals – a team that is led by the likely MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It seems that the future of the Philadelphia 76ers franchise is on the line in the team’s Game 7 – in more ways than one.
