Jahlil Okafor is getting himself into great shape ahead of the new NBA season. The Sixers big man told CSN Philly’s Jessica Camerato that he has already lost 20 pounds from his weight last year thanks in part to a mostly vegan diet.

This upcoming season will be an important one for Okafor. After a solid rookie year where he averaged 17.5 points and seven rebounds per game, Okafor suffered a massive sophomore slump as his numbers dipped to just 11.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

The former No. 3 overall pick has fallen way down in the Sixers big man pecking order behind Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, and even Richaun Holmes, and will need to play his way back into head coach Brett Brown’s rotation.

Of course, Okafor’s limited offensive range and inability to defend are also key factors in him losing his playing time. But still, the fact that he should be in pretty good shape is a good sign and should give him a better chance of becoming a more productive player than he was last season for Philly.
