Jamal Crawford thinks Sixers are ‘just a piece away’ to become a legitimate title contender

Jamal Crawford

Three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year winner Jamal Crawford believes that the current Philadelphia 76ers squad has what it takes to emerge out of the stacked Eastern Conference this year.

The Brett Brown-mentored squad possesses a blend of young and experienced players in their roster, and Crawford said they simply need one good piece to get them over the hump.

“Man, I love Philly. Their length, their aggressiveness. They’ve gotten a taste of success, so they know what that feels like. I think they’re just a piece away; but I think another shot creator. I like Tobias Harris, I love Jojo, I like Coach Brown a lot, so I like the team,” he shared in a clip posted by Basketball Society on YouTube.

As far as shot creating goes, Crawford might just be one of the best options in the market right now, even at 39 years of age.

The Sixers’ starters of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, Al Horford, and Josh Richardson does the bulk of the scoring for the team, but they are in need of consistent scorer who can put up points off the bench. Crawford seems to fit the bill as he has career averages of 14.6 points and 3.4 assists per contest throughout his 19-year NBA career.

Crawford’s issues on the defensive side of the floor has scared off some suitors, but there’s no doubt he can still be of service to teams in need of scorers.  The Sixers, Lakers, Clippers, Bucks and Raptors have reportedly shown interest in signing him this season.

Philly, meanwhile, improved its record to 15-6 (5th in the East) after a 103-94 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday.
