Joel Embiid is a man possessed. That perhaps is the only way to describe the Philadelphia 76ers star center's play this season. After narrowly missing out on the MVP award last season, the Cameroonian star picked up where he left off and carried his team to a successful regular season once again.

On Sunday night, Joel Embiid gave Sixers fans another show, dropping 44 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 blocks to clinch a playoff spot for the team. That massive statline (40+ points/15+ rebounds/5+ blocks) is something that's rarely seen in the NBA, and yet Embiid has done it more than once, putting him in some elite company. (via StatMuse)

That's one hell of a list of centers, and Embiid certainly belongs there. In a league full of talented wings and guards, the Sixers center's towering presence is near-unmatched in the league. He's the primary reason why his team has been a perennial playoff contender ever since he was drafted by the team.

Embiid is also slowly making his case to being one of the best players in Sixers history. Already, he has eclipsed two legendary Philly big men in a certain stat. Talk about insane volume and production.

It's no surprise to Sixers fans that Joel Embiid is among the front-runners for the MVP award alongside fellow center Nikola Jokic and lanky forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. The race for the coveted award has been extremely close thus far, with all three players having legitimate arguments as to why they should win. It will be interesting to see who the media, the players, and the fans vote as the deserving MVP.
