Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid's trolling knows no bounds and even extends to opposing head coaches. Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was the victim of the Sixers big man's latest on-court shenanigans at Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia on Thursday.
The home team was thrashing the visitors in the third quarter of their match, punctuated by a two-handed jam by Sixers forward Tobias Harris on the fastbreak. That easy deuce gave Philly a commanding 25-point lead at the time, which usually warrants a timeout for the other team.
Embiid knew this and looked at coach Spo's way and gestured that he should call a timeout to stop the bleeding. Here's the hilarious moment.
The Sixers and the Heat were experiencing contradicting fortunes heading into Thursday's match. Philly had a strong start to the 2020-21 season. They slipped a bit and lost three in a row before bouncing back against the same Heat squad in their last outing with a 137-134 win overtime. By the looks of it, the Sixers had a much easier time against the Heat this time around.
Miami, on the other hand, has struggled so far following that bridesmaid finish last season. Joel Embiid was a thorn on their side in their last meeting as the Cameroonian center dropped a season-high 45 points to go along with 16 rebounds, four assists, five steals, and one block.
Coach Erik Spoelstra, meanwhile, certainly knows how to do his job considering he has been one of the best tacticians in the league over the last few years. Still, that won't stop Embiid from calling a timeout in his stead.
