After colliding with Ante Zizic during the Philadelphia 76ers-Cleveland Cavaliers game on Wednesday, Sixers star Joel Embiid left with an apparent left shoulder injury, per Sam Amico of Sports Illustrated.
Zizic was called for a foul on the play and Embiid would go on to shoot the ensuing free throws while holding his left shoulder.
Embiid played just eight total minutes and scored three points before leaving in the first quarter. The Cameroonian big man would later return to sit on the Sixers bench before returning back to the locker room.
Injuries have been a concern for the 7-foot center throughout his whole career. After missing the entirety of his first two seasons, Embiid has yet to play more than 64 games in a campaign.
The Sixers All-Star has already missed 16 games for the team this season due to a finger injury he suffered in January.
When healthy, Embiid is one of the top big men in the NBA. The 25-year-old is averaging 23.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 blocks per game for the Sixers while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc.
If Joel Embiid is forced to miss an extended period of time, the 36-22 Sixers will have to rely on Tobias Harris and Josh Richardson among others to pick up the slack.
* UPDATE: Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the rest of the game due to a left shoulder sprain.
