Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will have all the money he could ever need in his entire life after he signed his $148 million max extension this summer. However, it seems he doesn’t really need all that much cash on him to be happy. He didn’t go out on a spending spree after signing his massive deal, and insists he’s set simply by having just a couple of essential items.

Per Jackie MacMullan of ESPN.com:

When asked what he bought for himself after inking the extension, Embiid answered, “Nothing.”

Just before the extension, he purchased a new home for his parents in Cameroon because the old one was filled with painful memories of his brother Arthur, who was struck and killed by a car three years ago. Embiid wasn't tempted to indulge for himself, either with jewelry, a house or a new car.

“I don't drive,” he says. “All I really need is my video games and a big-ass TV.”

It speaks to just how eccentric a character Embiid is that it’s not hard to envision him being fully content with his video games and TV even though he has millions to his name and can buy just about anything he wants. You’d think the 23-year-old would eventually grow out of that video game phase and find other ways to spend his fortune, but with Embiid, you never really know.
