It appears that Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Joel Embiid is still dealing with the effects of a hand sprain he suffered over ten months ago. Embiid disclosed this information to the media after the Sixers' recent home win against the Utah Jazz.

Rich Hofmann of The Athletic mentioned Embiid's persisting injury in his article about Jimmy Butler's successful home debut for the Sixers.

“It goes back to the game against the Suns last year in Phoenix,” he said. “I dealt with that, but it’s been on and off. But we take care of it, I get treatment every day to make sure that the swelling (doesn’t) come back. But at the beginning of the game today, it was pretty bad, especially for the rest of the game.”

Hofmann also wrote that the young flamboyant center was seen with a tape on his injured hand during his warm-up drills in a game against the Miami Heat.

Embiid was wearing tape on his right hand and wrist area during warmups in Miami earlier this week. And if you take away the dominant performance in South Beach, Mr. Process shot just 17-55 from the field against Memphis, Orlando and Utah. Could that hand be affecting him?

This injury information is actually very surprising. Embiid is solidifying his case for an MVP award this year with impressive averages of 27.4 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.2 blocks per game.

However, the fact that he could still feel something painful in his right hand is an indication that the Sixers training staff should do something about it. The team would want Embiid to be fully ready come playoff time so the best time to take a look at his injury would be now.
