Julius Erving, affectionately known as “Dr. J”, was recently hospitalized after falling ill at a 76ers game on Friday night. Now, it appears that the Doctor will be making a full recovery soon, after being released from the hospital earlier today. Erving's management team took to Twitter to announce that Erving will be fine after his serious illness.

Message from Mr. Erving’s Management Team: Mr. Erving has been released from the hospital after a comprehensive medical evaluation. He’s expected to make a full recovery and sincerely thanks all of his friends and fans for their well wishes and prayers.

The 67-year old Hall-of-Famer revolutionized the game of basketball, engaging in athletic dunks that were against the norm during his playing days in the league. Erving won two titles in the ABA, but he achieved substantial success once the league merged into what is now known as the NBA.

In the NBA, Erving helped the 76ers win the 1983 NBA championship. In addition, he personally won the NBA MVP award in 1981. He is a 11-time NBA All-Star, and he currently is ranked sixth on the NBA's all-time scoring list, with career averages of 24.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Erving attended the 76ers commemoration of his famous “Rock the Baby” cradle dunk against the Los Angeles Lakers. The 76ers rang the Liberty Bell before their tipoff against the Detroit Pistons in honor of Erving, who is considered to be the greatest player in their franchise history.

No more details have been released on the nature of Erving's illness, but he is expected to make a full recovery, which should be good news to everyone concerned.
