Despite being selected first overall in last June’s draft, Markelle Fultz knows there’s still some facets of his game that he needs to improve on. One of them is his free throw shooting, as it appeared to be his waterloo back in college, only averaging 64.9 percent from the foul line.
Part of the lack of success he’s had is believed to be his unorthodox form, where he tends to delay the release of the ball when shooting it. He also launches a high arc, making it more prone to be missed. He recently admitted that he is working on it this offseason, but also made it known that fans should expect to see him shooting with the same style in his rookie season.
The Philadelphia 76ers think very highly of Fultz and want him to become that best player he can be. He is being thought of as their point guard of the future and together with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric could be their cornerstones for the years to come.
If Fultz will be able to find a way to improve his percentage from the free throw line, it will be beneficial to him as he often gets fouled with his ability to attack the basket hard. It could also avoid him possibly getting hacked during close games as it has become a popular ploy for teams, especially when they know there’s someone from their opponents that has a poor percentage from that distance.
