Former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie emerged from his cave and spoke about Daryl Morey joining the Sixers.

Hinkie, who rarely ever does interviews with the media, told ESPN's Pablo Torre that he's thrilled Morey is working on a deal to run the Sixers' basketball operations department.

“I was stoked. I'm stoked now. I think it's great news. He's not a good hire. He's a great hire. It's a really big move for the franchise. For a franchise I care a lot about. With a bunch of people I care a lot about. I just think it portends really great things for the future, for the Sixers. Which remains meaningful to me. So I'm stoked,” Sam Hinkie said of the Daryl Morey hiring news.

“I do talk every day, I just don't talk to you and your colleagues at ESPN on television every day. It's not every day you get to gas up one of your friends that just had something awesome happen in their life that happens to coalesce with a bunch of my life.”

Morey stepped down as general manager of the Houston Rockets and then quickly worked with Philly to become their new president of basketball operations.

Hinkie, who was the leader of the “Process” era when he tanked on purpose to get high picks in the draft, believes Morey is going to do great things with the Sixers and won't look to split up All-Stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid despite their iffy fit together on the court at times.

The Sixers fired Brett Brown after the 2020 playoffs ended. They hired former Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers as Brown's replacement.
