Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers came insanely close to bringing their game against the Phoenix Suns to OT. How close? Literally a few inches. The MVP candidate threw up a prayer with less than a second left on what could've been one of the best plays of the entire 2020-21 NBA season.

Watch as Embiid almost broke the internet with an unbelievable pitch (via Rob Perez):

With 0.8 seconds left in the game clock, Chris Paul had one more free throw to ice the game with the Suns up by three. Paul's charity shot fell a bit short and fell right in the hands of Embiid. The Sixers big man got up for the board, planted his feet, and threw an 80-foot heave all in less than a second. Embiid's almost banked in his crazy hail mary as the ball bounced off the rim.

Even Devin Booker was floored with the alm0st-buzzer-beater.

This shot would've been the perfect icing for Embiid's powerful performance on Wednesday against Phoenix. The 27-year-old led the way for the Sixers with 38 points and 17 boards while shooting 3-of-5 from deep.

Unfortunately, just like in any sport, there aren't any trophies for what-if's in the NBA. Instead of us talking about how Embiid and the Sixers climbed all the way back to win this one in OT, we're not. Embiid's shot rattling out gave the Suns their 13th win in their last 15 outings. And, on the other side of the fence, the Sixers end their four-game homestand with back-to-back losses.
