It’s officially official. The Snyder Cut of the Justice League release date has been revealed. Among various places to announce it, the director took to Twitter himself to relay the information.

Justice League Release Date: March 18, 2021

This is obviously huge news for those who have been dying for the Snyder Cut for some time.

HBOMax, the streamer carrying the new version of Justice League, also relayed the following plot summary:

“Determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Obviously, most people interested in the Snyder Cut release date were already aware of the original Justice League plot. However, it won’t stop anyone from wanting to see the allegedly superior version of the film.

This is not really a huge gamble for HBOMax or anything, but it is for the director, as the hype behind the film has reached other-worldly levels. Anything other than a massive improvement over the maligned original will result in a lot of new naysayers.

Don’t be a weirdo who roots for that, though.

It’s also worth noting that Wonder Woman 1984 came out to mixed reviews. While the original came out to raving reviews, the straight-to-stream Warner gamble was as mixed a bag as the original Justice League release. This is where things begin to get somewhat important for HBOMax.

Inching its way toward the Big 3 of streaming platforms, HBOMax still needs to carve out a niche outside producing a billion Game of Thrones spinoffs. While those will certainly generate a lot of buzz, the idea of getting the DC Universe off the ground in earnest — and, as importantly, with consistently good content — can help the giant jump leaps and bounds ahead of streaming platforms like Peakcock, CBS All Access (semi-RIP) and the like.

Time will tell, but the world is clearly excited for the Snyder Cut release date being revealed (or the Justice League release date, depending on how you look at it), so let’s get ready for March, eh?
