It was a somewhat disappointing season for Chelsea, finishing third place in the Premier League. The Blues never really looked like threats to challenge for the title, and the season was largely overshadowed by the ownership drama revolving around Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
With the club set for new ownership in 2022-23, Chelsea will likely look to flash the cash this summer to ensure things are business as usual going forward. The team is already expected to lose several key players, particularly on defense, to free transfers, but they will likely also see some attacking players depart the club.
Chelsea will be actively looking at some big-name transfer targets, but will also be ready to cut ties with some key players who haven't lived up to their expectations. With a crucial season looming, Chelsea could be facing some serious roster turnover as they look to get back to the Champions League Final.

With that in mind here are four players Chelsea should move on from this summer.
4 players Chelsea should sell this summer
4. Marcos Alonso
Marcos Alonso's contract is due to expire in 2023 and he's already been linked with a move to Barcelona. Chelsea shouldn't be too concerned about the Spanish left-back's future at the club, especially with Ben Chilwell due to return from injury next season. Selling Alonso while they're still able to recoup a transfer fee could be the smart financial decision for Chelsea. At 31-years-old, Alonso offers more offensively than he does in the defensive third, and the fact that a team like Barca is even interested in him should be more than enough reason for Chelsea to let him walk. Considering he's more than likely to leave on a free transfer in 2023, if Chelsea can get some return for him now, it's time to sell.
3. Timo Werner
Timo Werner's stint at Chelsea can best be defined as disappointing. After joining from RB Leipzig just a couple of years ago, Werner struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and was the subject of harsh criticism for his play in his early days with the club. He failed to lock down a consistent role this year, and that could prompt Chelsea to sell the 26-year-old. Werner featured in 21 matches, starting 15, but scored just 4 goals in the Premier League, registering 1 assist. After scoring 28 Bundesliga goals in 34 games in 2019-20, Werner has managed just 10 league goals over the last two seasons in London. A move away could be the best for both parties, as Chelsea is expected to be in the market for offensive reinforcements this summer.
2. Kepa Arrizabalaga
Chelsea had absolutely massive expectations for Kepa when they signed him from Athletic Bilbao, and he's largely considered one of the biggest flops in club, and Premier League, history. After starting 69 games over his first two seasons at the club, it quickly became clear that Kepa wasn't cut out to be the No. 1 keeper at Chelsea, and he's since had his role overtaken by Edouard Mendy. It's time for Chelsea to put an end to this disastrous experiment and offload Arrizbalaga during the summer window. The team is looking at a massive financial loss after signing him for an absurd $88 million, but the reality is he doesn't have much of a future at the club.
1. Romelu Lukaku
Talk about a disastrous reunion with the club. Romelu Lukaku's coveted return to Chelsea was one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window. After leaving Manchester United and dominating at Inter Milan, Lukaku returned to his boyhood club to try to regain the place he failed to gain earlier on his career. Whether it was the bright lights of London proving too overwhelming, or Lukaku simply struggling to adapt, the Belgian striker endured a miserable season at Stamford Bridge. He often found himself out of favor with manager Thomas Tuchel, and a wild interview that was released mid-season featured the striker controversially reminiscing on his days at Inter Milan. Perhaps what's best for both parties is a quick and painless split, as Lukaku simply might not be cut out for life at Chelsea.
