Unfortunately, this was a step that had to be done. Barcelona is still in financial turmoil despite the departure of club legend Lionel Messi, who abruptly left for PSG after the Catalan giants were unable to pay him even half of his current wages.
Pique agreed to a smaller salary just before the La Liga season began in order to register Memphis Depay, who has already played a key part in the side's success with two goals and an assist to his name. Aguero hasn't yet suited up for Barcelona due to an injury, but he's expected to be back in November.
There's been a very different feel at Camp Nou without Messi, but Ronald Koeman's men have done relatively well thus far. They've yet to lose through three games after beating Getafe on Sunday. Alba and Busquets are two of the most loyal players in the Barcelona squad and clearly, they will do anything needed to ensure the club can enjoy success, even if it means money out of their own pockets.
