Chelsea FC could potentially have a new owner very soon. Chicago Cubs owners, the Ricketts family, have teamed up with billionaire Ken Griffin to form an investment group that will make a formal bid for the club this Friday.

This is just one of many Americans who have shown a huge interest in purchasing Chelsea. In fact, a huge number of billionaires from across the globe would like to try and buy the Blues, but the Ricketts family are currently emerging as a frontrunner.

Per sources close to Sky Sports, their success and financial firepower would be an instant hit at Stamford Bridge following the Roman Abramovich saga. After all, the Ricketts family completed a $1 billion renovation of the Cubs' home stadium, Wrigley Field and the team also won a World Series in 2016.

Chelsea is currently in turmoil due to the UK government putting sanctions on Abramovich and freezing all of his assets. He was forced to give up control of the club due to his connections with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is currently attacking Ukraine.

As for Griffin, who is teaming up with the Ricketts family, he is one of the most successful executives in Wall Street history. Griffin is the founder and chief executive of the hedge fund Citadel. According to Forbes, he's worth $26 billion and would be the richest man yet to be involved in a bid for Chelsea.
