After coming away from the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid with a narrow 1-0 defeat, Jurgen Klopp is already confident that Liverpool will soon make a return to the biggest fixture in club football.
Speaking to BT Sport after the loss to Real Madrid, Klopp issued an early prediction for next year’s Champions League final.
“I have a strong feeling we'll come again,” Klopp said. “We have an outstanding group together. We will have an outstanding group next season.
“Where is it next year [Champions League final]? Istanbul? Book the hotel.”
Liverpool had its way with creating key goal-scoring chances over the course of this year’s final, logging 24 total shots. Still, it failed time and time again to find the back of the net, as Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois recorded nine total saves in the contest. In the end, a Vinicius Junior goal in the second half proved to be just enough for Real Madrid against the Premier League powerhouse.
Liverpool capped off the season with two trophies won, coupled with the second place finish in the final Premier League standings.
In the big picture, Liverpool may need to open up its checkbook in the upcoming summer transfer window if it aspires to see the team make a run to next year’s Champions League final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey — the site of its final victory over AC Milan in 2005.
