Gabriel Slonina only recently declared his allegiance to the USMNT, having previously been in contention to join the Poland squad. The Illinois native has spent the past two seasons playing for the Chicago Fire, taking over as their starting goalkeeper this season.
He's clearly caught the eye of some of the world's biggest clubs with his performances in the MLS, and Real Madrid have seen enough to launch serious bids to bring him to the club.
It's being reported that Slonina is keen on the move, considering a transfer to Real Madrid to be too much of an honor to pass up, but Chicago is keen on retaining its young goalkeeper. If Real Madrid is serious about bringing the 18-year-old to La Liga, they'll have to up the offer to the MLS side.
Slonina has featured in 14 matches for Chicago this season, surrendering a total of 20 goals. He's one of the United States' most highly-rated goalkeeping talents, and a move to Real Madrid would see him join fellow USMNT goalies Zack Steffen and Matt Turner overseas. Steffen is currently a backup at Manchester City, while Turner is set to join Arsenal this coming season.
It's unclear precisely how much Real Madrid has bid in order to land Slonina, but they may need to come back with an improved offer if they're serious about signing the future star away from Chicago.
