The United States Men's National Team faces one last clash before they can officially secure qualification into the 2022 World Cup. Ahead of the USA's World Cup qualifying final, former USMNT star DeAndre Yedlin issued a warning to the current squad in order to ensure there isn't any complacency among the team. Speaking with 90min, Yedlin revealed that he'd spoken to coach Gregg Berhalter and some of the members of the squad, sharing his “cautionary tale” from his own sour experiences on missing out on the World Cup.

Yedlin was part of the infamous USA squad that failed to qualify for the World Cup back in 2018. The United States merely needed to draw or win against Trinidad & Tobago in their final match in order to qualify for the competition, but lost 2-1 in a stunning defeat to put an end to their dreams of making the trip to Russia.

“I've obviously tried to share with the group and also with Gregg Berhalter kind of what I think went wrong, and where I think we went wrong in that situation,” Yedlin said via 90min. “But it's also about this group now. It's not about the last group. So it's about having that balance and knowing that we’ve got to focus on ourselves and focus on the job at hand.”

While the United States has a much smaller chance of losing their qualification spot this time around, as they would need to lose by more than 6 goals to fall behind Costa Rica in the table.

Yedlin was not included in the team this time around, and he's surely disappointed to be missing out on the chance to make right on what his squad failed to achieve four years ago. Instead of taking the field on Wednesday night, he's reminding the men who will be taking the pitch exactly what's at stake.
