The Oklahoma Sooners' Spring Game is less than a month away. This year, the game includes a special tribute to former Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Oklahoma Football tweeted the news Thursday afternoon.

During his three years at Oklahoma, Mayfield received numerous honors, including the Manning Award, the Maxwell Award, and the highly regarded Heisman Trophy.

Five years later, the Sooners want to recognize Mayfield's impact on the organization by honoring him with a public dedication of his Heisman Trophy statue. The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Sooners' 2022 Spring Game on April 23, according to the Sooners' release.

The article also noted that the statue dedicated to Mayfield will be unveiled at Heisman Park, while the ceremony with the NFL quarterback will be on Owen Field in Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The statue reveal will play on the video boards within the stadium, and fans can go to Heisman Park immediately after the game for organized photo opportunities at the statue.

Sooners head coach Brent Venables didn't have the opportunity to coach Mayfield. However, he expects a lot from Oklahoma fans at the Spring Game.

β€œI can't wait to see that passion on display on April 23rd, and my challenge to the fans is to fill up the stadium. As we say all the time inside our walls, β€˜Best is the standard.' Let's pack the Palace and make it a great day for everyone,” the new head coach said, quote courtesy of the Sooners' release.

This is certainly a great change of pace for Mayfield, who has been through a lot this offseason. The Cleveland Browns provided no reassurance for the quarterback, and now, he's stuck on the roster as Deshaun Watson's backup.
