Boris Diaw announced that he was retiring after a long and successful career, complete with a championship with the San Antonio Spurs. The Frenchman is walking away from the game. Although he's at peace with the decision, a lack of interest from teams played a role in his decision.

Diaw appeared on SiriusXM NBA Radio to talk about his decision to retire and his hilarious exchange with Frank Isola led to a revelation from Diaw. Frank Isola asked Diaw what went into the decision to retire because Isola insinuated that there were still teams interested. Diaw responded:

“Well, no. That's why I retired, pretty much. Last year I was playing in France, I played in Europe for a year. And so this year, I was like, ‘OK, I don't want to do that again, go back in Europe, play one more year. And can I?' And you know, just feeling old, and won't be able to do it anymore. I figured, you know, why not stop now?”

Diaw let out a laugh and seems like he's satisfied with his decision to walk away from the game. Isola asked if he accomplished all his goals in the NBA. Diaw said:

“Yeah, exactly, and that's what was a big part of my decision. It's like, OK, you know, I've been here. I've done what I had to do. I got fortunate enough to be on a team and win a championship, competing every year, every season. Different situations, but always been good. And always enjoy myself. So it was like, OK. I did what I had to do and I can stop now.”

Diaw sounds at peace with his decision to walk away from the game. He won a championship which seems to be the one thing that keeps the veterans hanging around.
