Dejounte Murray of the San Antonio Spurs was sadly lost for the entire 2018-19 season before it even began when he tore his ACL in an October preseason game against the Houston Rockets.

This was a huge loss for the Spurs, but the team was able to rebound and get some terrific point-of-attack defense from unsung prospects Derrick White, who capably filled in for Murray and even displayed some impressive feats of athleticism – making him even more reminiscent of Murray.

However, Murray, who will still only be 23 years old next season, managed to notch an All-Defensive Second Team selection after the 2017-18 season, which is a fairly impressive feat for a second-year player.

Murray’s incredible speed and pesky length make him a terror on the defensive and he finished top 6 in steal rate (2.8%), defensive rating (101.0), and defensive box plus/minus (3.4) with the Spurs in 2017-18 per Basketball Reference.

Murray was able to use his fairly impressive athleticism to produce highlight plays on a regular basis, and according to a recent video he posted on social media, that athleticism might be returning soon:

Murray threw down this windmill dunk with ease, so let’s hope he can return to the form he showcased in his second season as soon as possible.
