The San Antonio Spurs will square off with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the second straight day, and the Spurs will be down one of their key starters. Ahead of Sunday's rematch with the Timberwolves, DeMar DeRozan is expected to miss some time as he tends to his ill father.

After facing Minnesota on the road on Saturday, San Antonio will do it again on Sunday. But with DeRozan's father being sick in Los Angeles, the veteran star is heading back across the country to spend time with him.

According to Jeff McDonald of MySanAntonio.com, DeRozan's absence isn't believed to be connected to the NBA's healthy and safety protocols. Given that, there's no specific timetable for DeRozan to return to the team.

DeRozan has been extremely productive for the Spurs in the first nine games, averaging a team-high 21.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. During Saturday's narrow win over the Timberwolves, DeRozan notched a season-high 38 points on 56.5 percent shooting, which drew praise from Dejounte Murray.

Besides the upcoming matchup with Minnesota, DeRozan could miss San Antonio's meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. The Spurs come into their next two games on a three-game winning streak.

Of course, some things are bigger than basketball. DeRozan should spend time with his father while he's dealing with an illness. With DeRozan expected to be sidelined for an unknown period of time, Keldon Johnson and Rudy Gay could see increased minutes in San Antonio's upcoming games.

In light of that, we hope that DeMar DeRozan's father can make a speedy recovery from whatever illness he is dealing with.
