With all the news that has been reported about San Antonio Spurs star forward Kawhi Leonard, it still remains unclear if and when he will exactly return to action this season. Head coach Gregg Popovich added more speculation to his potential availability after speaking to Leonard on Tuesday afternoon.

The five-time champion coach said that the 2014 Finals MVP is progressing well, and that he “feels pretty good,” making it very possible for him to suit up for the Spurs anytime now, according to Michael C. Wright of ESPN.

Leonard has missed all but nine games so far this campaign, as he is suffering from a right quad tendinopathy. He last appeared for the Spurs back in mid-January, and has season averages of 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in 23.3 minutes per game. His importance to the team is beyond words, as he excels on both ends of the floor, and giving them another weapon they can use to keep the defense busy, and opening up the lanes for his teammates to attack the basket.

After it was initially reported that Leonard could play against the New Orleans Pelicans as early as Tuesday, he is now been ruled out for it and it’s still anyone’s guess at this point when he’ll re-join his teammates on the floor. With the Spurs currently in 10th place in the Western Conference, they will need all the help they can get at this point, and Leonard’s return could just be what they need to once again be the dominant team they are.
