The NBA is mulling on incorporating some changes that will affect the landscape of the Association. Asked about the possible developments, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said that he would rather not stick his nose on that matter and would leave it to the league office to do what they do.

Pop and the Spurs currently have bigger things to worry about. San Antonio sits at 11th in the Western Conference standings with a 6-11 record to begin the season. The good news for them is that they recently snapped their eight-game losing streak with a much-needed victory over the lowly New York Knicks.

The league reportedly has serious conversations with the NBA Players Association and its broadcast partners regarding potential changes to its calendar year.

The changes would have a substantial impact on the postseason, as a playoff play-in where the seventh to tenth seeds would fight for the final two spots in each conference is also being considered.

Likewise, a reseeding of the four conference finalist would occur according to their respective regular season records. This has long been one of the solutions that fans and analysts have suggested so that the NBA Finals would feature the real two best teams in the league.

In addition to these changes, the regular season would be cut down to 78 games, where an in-season tournament would also take place. Teams which advance deep in the tourney and win the entire thing will reportedly be compensated.

These proposed changes are obviously still in its infancy and there are plenty more discussions to be made. Reportedly, the league hopes to incorporate these changes by the 2021-22 season — the NBA's 75th anniversary.

It will be interesting to see how all of these unfold in the near future.
