The San Antonio Spurs have quietly been on a seven-game winning streak. The Spurs won again on Friday, as they took care of business against the New York Knicks, 109-83.

Following the victory, San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich had some motivational words for his team, while also reiterating how their defense plays a pivotal role in the team's progress.

“It's more of a focus and them understanding that when we play good defense, we're a darn good team,” Popovich said, via ESPN.

This was certainly the case on Friday, as the Spurs were able to hold the Knicks to just 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Spurs big man Jakob Poeltl served as the anchor of the team on D, tying a career high with five blocks against New York. The 23-year-old also logged 12 points (on 6-of-7 shooting), nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 27 minutes of action.

The duo of LaMarcus Aldridge (18 points, 11 rebounds) and DeMar DeRozan (13 points, seven assists) carried much of the offensive load for the team, as the Spurs remain unbeaten throughout the month of March.

The victory lifts the Spurs to 40-29, and they are now close to guaranteeing a playoff spot in a ruthless Western Conference. San Antonio, however, are currently sixth in the West, with the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Clippers both only half a game behind in the standings.

The Spurs are on the second night of a back-to-back set on Saturday, and are slated to face off against the fourth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers.
