The San Antonio Spurs are also making moves in what has been a frenetic Day 1 of the NBA free agency window. It may not be the franchise-altering deal that opposing teams have recently gone through, but the re-signing of big man Jakob Poeltl serves as an important development in San Antonio's offseason.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Poeltl has agreed to a new three-year deal with the Spurs:

Poeltl had a good second season with the Spurs last term, averaging 5.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks in 17.7 minutes off the San Antonio bench. He is no superstar, but he has been one of head coach Gregg Popovich's more reliable guys on the team's second unit.

Poeltl earned $3.8 million last season, and with his new deal in the $9-million range per year, this extension represents a significant salary bump for the 25-year-old.

Unsurprisingly, there hasn't been much news coming from San Antonio of late with regards to potential trade deals or free agent signings. There were some whispers about a deal involving DeMar DeRozan to the Los Angeles Lakers, but that never really took off.

After a disappointing campaign last season, however, the Spurs are expected to make a few changes on their squad. On Wednesday, they drafted Devin Vassell as the 11th overall pick, and this could serve as a good first step for San Antonio in terms of fielding a more formidable side for the upcoming season. Needless to say, however, a few more upgrades here and there wouldn't hurt.
