San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama had the ball feet from the basket with just 13 seconds left in the game. His team was down two to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He'd scored 24 points, including a runner in the paint that had just brought his team within a bucket.

He passed.

Upon getting the ball from Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan took a couple of dribbles as he moved under the hoop in an effort to avoid getting his shot blocked by Cavs big man Jarrett Allen. In looking for Keldon Johnson, Sochan's pass flew out of bounds. The game, essentially, ended at that point.

Asked if, in that spot, he'd take the shot if he could do it all over again, the 7-foot-4 phenom paused before answering.

“I don't think so. I need to re-watch the tape but I don't know. Of course, I'm not going to make that mistake again if I made one,” Wembanyama told reporters.

Including Thursday's thrilling loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the 117-115 result in Ohio meant a second straight Spurs setback that went down to the wire against an expected Eastern Conference playoff team. This one came after the Silver and Black nearly erased all of a 16-point deficit with just 5:08 remaining in the contest.

“We made all this effort for the whole game, especially at the end. We had this run. We could mathematically, easily come back before this but it's just stuff that happens. We've got to get over it and do the job before,” the 20-year-old rookie said.

Victor Wembanyama and the 5-30 Spurs close a mini two-game road trip against the 3-33 Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
