Once the NBA season ends, there are going to be two big storylines to follow during the offseason. Where does LeBron James end up, and does Kawhi Leonard stay in San Antonio or force his way out?

If the Spurs decide they want to keep him, they will have to offer him a max contract and according to Chris Mannix who was on WEEI Radio, it would be stunning if he decided to turn it down.

“The one thing the Spurs have to decide over the next few weeks is: Are they prepared to make Kawhi Leonard a super-max offer? Because if they make Kawhi a super-max offer — when I talk to other teams, they’d be stunned if Kawhi turned it down. That’s just real money.

The oft-repeated phrase I hear is, ‘Take the money and demand a trade later.’ You can’t get that money back from another team in a potential trade. So the Spurs have to decide if they want to do that. If they don’t, then they have to put him on the market. In that situation, the situation is irreconcilable.”

There have been more and more rumors as of late about what certain teams would give up to get Leonard to come over to their team. If the Spurs did decide that is the route they wanted to go was trading him, they could probably get a pretty good haul in return for him.

The Spurs also could do a sign and trade with another team so that Leonard was still able to get the max contract while moving on from the team.
