Metu finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and one assist in 20 minutes of action. More importantly, the Nigerians got the win, 86-73. Josh Okogie led the national team with 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ekpe Udoh chipped in 13 points and two rebounds.

With the win, Nigeria has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. This marks their third consecutive Olympic trip. They were initially down 21-19 in the first quarter. But they climbed their way back by winning all the three other quarters 16-10, 25-20 and 26-22.

Ike Diogu believes that Nigerian basketball is at its golden age. Per the Associated Press via Sportsnet:

“Right now, we kind of feel like it’s the golden age of Nigerian basketball,” said Ike Diogu — one of five NBA players on his country’s World Cup roster.

China, meanwhile, failed to qualify for the Olympics — at least through the FIBA World Cup. Their loss to Nigeria brought their record to 2-3 — a tie with Iran. However, the Iranian national team broke the tie after their dominant over the Philippines, 95-75. China still has a chance for an Olympic berth via the Olympic Qualifying Tournament next year.
