A calamitous scene is unfolding in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, as supporters of President Donald Trump breached the US Capitol building during the Senate's debate over the certification of President-elect Joe Biden.

Numerous NBA personnel have spoken out against the violence erupting in the nation's capital and the discrepancies between the level of security Wednesday as compared to during Black Lives Matter protests this summer. This includes Dwayne Wade and Kevin Love, with the latter retweeting an image showing security from BLM protests.

New Orleans Pelicans head coach Stan Van Gundy also spoke out against the events unfolding in D.C.:

“If you are an American and aren’t embarrassed by the domestic terrorism taking place at the U.S. Capitol there is something wrong with you,” Van Gundy tweeted. “This is a shameful day for our country.”

It is nothing short of chaotic in Washington.

Tear gas has been deployed in the Rotunda, and some supporters even made it inside the chamber and inside offices.

The violence has been perpetrated both against the U.S. Capitol police and the structure itself, with supporters smashing the windows.

President Trump, for months, has peddled false theories regarding election fraud, and his lawsuits were thrown out in state courts.

But that did not stop Trump from demanding Vice President Mike Pence deny certification of the electoral college.

The result has been nothing short of shameful.

Van Gundy has never been shy about speaking his mind with respect to politics or social issues. But what is transpiring Wednesday at the US Capitol, as Van Gundy said, is something else altogether.
