Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put in a lot of work this offseason to have his body in better shape for his 18th season. But Big Ben also had to mentally prepare for the 2021 season now that Matt Canada is taking over as offensive coordinator, bringing with him a playbook full of new stuff the quarterback has to learn.

And who has helped Roethlisberger learn this new offense? Why, his 7-year-old daughter Baylee, of course.

Via ESPN's Brooke Pryor:

For Roethlisberger, the offseason training extended beyond the physical components. In the offseason, the Steelers promoted quarterbacks coach Matt Canada to offensive coordinator, and in doing that, ushered in an overhauled offensive scheme filled with misdirection, jet sweeps and new verbiage. To help navigate all the newness, Roethlisberger enlisted the help of his daughter, who made flashcards and quizzed him on Canada's terms.

“We've done that together,” Roethlisberger said. “There have been some quizzes at home. It's become as much of a mental offseason as it has physical in terms of learning new things. If you talk about the percentage of new, the run game formations, everything, it's a high percentage of new. It's a challenge.”

The Steelers are sure hoping Baylee Roethlisberger did a good job teaching her dad. Pittsburgh is looking to bounce back after a disappointing close to the 2020 season, which saw Big Ben falter as he dealt with some arm issues following his 2019 elbow surgery.

In all seriousness, Roethlisberger says his arm is feeling “really, really good” as training camp gets underway, which is great news for Pittsburgh. The Steelers quarterback is still getting used to all the new terminology in Canada's offense, but that's something he should continue to pick up over time after getting help from his daughter in the offseason.
