It has been six months since Ben Roethlisberger played in his final game with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since then, he has had plenty of time to reflect on his storied run in Pittsburgh.

Roethlisberger left behind quite a legacy during his 18-season tenure with the Steelers, from the pair of Super Bowl wins to finishing his career in the NFL ranking at eighth all-time in passing touchdowns with 418. He also shattered multiple Steelers passing records that were previously held by Terry Bradshaw.

Roethlisberger took some time to look back on his career during an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ron Cook. The six-time Pro Bowler touched on numerous such matters, which included opening up about a feat that makes him most proud. Instead of choosing one of his two Super Bowl victories or a personal accomplishment, he opted to pick the fact that he never featured on a losing team.

“Never having a losing season,” Roethlisberger said. “Obviously, the Super Bowls were awesome. I love being able to win two championships for this city. But I just wanted to win. I didn’t care how I won. I didn’t have to put up 500, 600, 700 yards and 10 touchdowns. That didn’t matter to me. It never did. I don’t know if people believed me, but it’s true. I’m that way with everything. I don’t care if I blow you out. I just want to beat you.

“For me to have the record that I had — that we had — and to never have a losing season in 18 seasons, that should go down as one of the greatest accomplishments. It means so much to me that I won football games.”

The Steelers notched a record of .500 or better in each of Roethlisberger’s 18 campaigns as their starting quarterback. There were a few seasons where it seemed as if the team would finish with a losing mark, including in the 2013 campaign, where the Steelers opened up the year logging a 2-6 record. Still, the AFC North powerhouse never finished with a losing record in the Ben Roethlisberger era.

With Roethlisberger now no longer in the fold, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is slated to call upon either Mitchell Trubisky or Kenny Pickett to anchor the offense come Week 1 of the 2022 season.
