In what was likely his final game with the Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring, Ben Roethlisberger admitted they could have done more against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Steelers lost to Patrick Mahomes and co., 42-21, in their Wild Card showdown on Sunday, with the Chiefs getting off to a hot start and never looking back after a 21-7 first half. Any Reid's men eventually breached the 40-point mark, although Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh tried to get back in the game.

After the contest, Roethlisberger admitted they didn't do themselves any favor after allowing the Chiefs to get a 14-point lead at halftime. Had they been able to limit the Kanas City offense, it's possible they would have gotten a fighting chance when they found their groove late in the contest.

“We didn't make plays early to give ourselves a chance,” Roethlisberger said of the loss, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

Despite the loss, though, Ben Roethlisberger made sure to give credit to his teammates for not giving up and fighting until the very end. They understand very well that they were the underdogs heading into the Wild Card round, but they definitely showed they deserved to be on the stage along with the best teams in the NFL.

“I'm really proud of the way guys fought … they fought to the end tonight. Literally didn't quit even until the last second. I'm so proud to call these guys brothers,” the Steelers star furthered.

Roethlisberger is expected to retire now, and while he would certainly love to end his career on a winning note, there's surely no regrets on his end. After all, the 39-year-old is a two-time Super Bowl champion who has cemented his legend status in the history books.
