Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is one of the most decorated players to ever suit up under center in the NFL. He is almost certain to add to his legacy on Sunday, as he's within striking distance of surpassing a fellow longtime quarterback on the NFL's all-time passing yards list.

Roethlisberger needs just 27 passing yards on Sunday in order to surpass former Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for fifth all-time, via the NFL's official Twitter. Rivers ended his career with 63,440 passing yards. Entering Week 15, Roethlisberger has 63,414 passing yards, so he'll need 26 to tie and 27 to pass him.

With that in mind, it's likely NFL fans will be treated to some history early on in the first quarter of the Steelers' clash with the Tennessee Titans.

Surpassing Rivers would see Roethlisberger in fifth all-time in terms of passing yards, trailing only legendary NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre, all of whom have surpassed 70,000 passing yards.

The Steelers' quarterback's lengthy career has certainly helped him achieve such lofty passing yard numbers, but it's worth noting that Roethlisberger was consistently among the league's top passing leaders, and even led the NFL in passing yards during the 2014 and 2018 seasons.

Through 12 games this season, Roethlisberger has 3,066 passing yards on 297 completions, having thrown 19 touchdown passes and seven interceptions in 2021. The 18-year veteran is likely in his last year in the NFL, and rumors about his impending retirement have frequently surrounded the 39-year-old. But the Steelers' star have his place among the all-time greats when his career does officially conclude, whenever that ends up being.
