The Ben Roethlisberger era in Pittsburgh is over after 18 seasons. Roethlisberger is a future Hall of Fame quarterback who was the face of the Steelers during his time with the organization. But the 40-year old announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2021-2022 campaign. However, he may not be done helping out the team. Steelers new QB Kenny Pickett revealed the message Roethlisberger relayed to him after Pittsburgh took him Pickett the 2022 NFL Draft.
Roethlisberger reportedly called Pickett and told him that he is welcome to reach out at any time. Big Ben said he is open to helping the young QB.
The news comes as a bit of a surprise after it was recently reported that there is “bad blood” between the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger. A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter was asked if there was any tension between the organization and the quarterback.
“I would say it's very very safe to assume that,” the reporter declared.
Nonetheless, Steelers nation is going to miss Roethlisberger under center. He was a 6-time Pro-Bowler who led the Steelers to a number of successful seasons. And he is willing to help the team's new franchise quarterback despite any looming issues with the franchise.
Roethlisberger also knows what it takes to find success in Pittsburgh. He will make for a great mentor to Kenny Pickett.
The Steelers have high aspirations for Pickett, who was drafted by Pittsburgh with the 20th overall selection. He should feel right at home after spending his college years at Pitt. He posted a tremendous final year at Pitt, as he threw for over 4,300 yards and 42 touchdowns compared to just 7 interceptions.
Kenny Pickett could become the next star quarterback in the NFL with Ben Roethlisberger guiding him along the way.
