The 2019 NFL campaign couldn't have started out worse for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After being hammered by the New England Patriots by a score of 33-3 in the season opener, the Steelers dropped to 0-2 after falling to the Seattle Seahawks at home on Sunday, and in the process, they lost both Ben Roethlisberger and James Conner to injuries.

Obviously, Roethlisberger is the more significant injury of the two, as Pittsburgh is now waiting to see whether or not he will need elbow surgery, which means that Mason Rudolph may be pressed into starting duty the rest of the way.

The Steelers aren't sure how long Rudolph will need to be under center, but Rudolph is assuring Pittsburgh that he can handle it regardless of how long of a time period it is:

“I am completely confident in myself, being a leader of a team and playing games. That’s what it all comes down to,” Rudolph said, according to Chris Adamski of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Rudolph completed 12 of his 19 passes for 112 yards, a couple of touchdowns and an interception on Sunday afternoon.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Oklahoma State, was originally selected by the Steelers in the third round (76th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Of course, Pittsburgh wasn't expecting Rudolph to take the reins at quarterback this soon.

The Steelers now face what is essentially a must-win game in Week 3, as they will head on the road to take on the San Francisco 49ers in hopes of avoiding an 0-3 start.
