The Pittsburgh Steelers have landed former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Ogunjobi and the Steelers have reached a one-year deal.
Ogunjobi was a key member of the Bengals defense last season. He helped them reach the Super Bowl and was easily one of the best defensive players on the team. As the year progressed, Ogunjobi played better and better as the Bengals rush defense became one of the better units in football.
Pittsburgh was in clear need of some help on the defensive line. Despite overall solid defensive statistics last season, whenever the Steelers faced a powerful run game, they were flattened.
The Steelers are set to have a massive fight on their hands this season in the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens are very likely going to be better due to sheer health. They were decimated with injuries last season. The Cleveland Browns have one of the most talented rosters in all of football. They were simply in need of a quarterback. That prompted the trade for Deshaun Watson. If Watson is allowed to play this season, the Browns should be among the best teams in the league. Then there's the Bengals.
The Bengals are the defending AFC Champions and came within three minutes of winning the Super Bowl. Their only glaring need was on the offensive line. They addressed that signing Pro Bowl level talent there.
The Steelers will potentially be starting a rookie quarterback, so the division will be an uphill battle. But Pittsburgh is yet to have a losing season under head coach Mike Tomlin. That winning pedigree is not likely to go away and with Ogunjobi anchoring the line, their defense should be better.
