Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters after morning practice and it didn't take long before he was asked to address the recent rumors of shooting guard Klay Thompson potentially landing in Boston as a possible trade to bolster the team's defense.

The rumor took off after Boston Celtics analyst Brian Scalabrine mentioned during a SiriusXM Radio interview that a trade involving Thompson and the Celtics' Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and a first round pick from the Brooklyn Nets could be in the cards.

Scalabrine later clarified through a tweet to Bleacher Report, that it was a rumor he read about on the internet, rather than his own insider information.

“Honestly I didn't even think about it,” said Kerr via Anthony Slater of the San Jose Mercury News. “I didn't know about it 'til just now. I think our guys know that stuff is almost always just BS. If that became a story, yeah then I would probably talk to Klay.”

“I didn't know it was a story until just now,” Kerr said sarcastically. “I'll go home and get on the internet and decide whether I should call Klay or not.”

The rumor pivots on the Warriors' hopes to make improvements at the defensive end. The trade would give the team two excellent defenders in Bradley and Crowder, but wouldn't address the rim protection the team so desperately needs.

In short — the trade is predicated on Golden State having enough tradable assets (hence the first-round draft pick) to make a move for a young, reliable rim protector.

The trade would benefit the Celtics out of the gate, as Thompson can play at shooting guard or small forward, and excels as a two-way player.

The Warriors on the other hand, would need to align the stars in order to get the desired product, which would be too high a risk for a front office that just stripped a championship roster apart to land the biggest free-agent signing of the season in Kevin Durant.
