It appears as though either Steve Wilks or Joe Woods will become the latest defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, according to a recent report from Jim Trotter of NFL Media. According to Trotter's report, Wilks and Woods are the two finalists to make new Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski's coaching staff for the 2020-21 campaign.

The Browns notably hired Stefanski as the team's new head coach this week after the Minnesota Vikings season officially came to an end over the weekend. Stefanski previously served as the Vikings offensive coordinator.

The 50-year-old Wilks most notably served as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals two seasons ago before ultimately becoming the defensive coordinator of the Browns this past season. However, Wilks' job with the Browns was put in jeopardy as former head coach Freddie Kitchens lasted just one season before being fired. Wilks previously served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears, then–San Diego Chargers, and Carolina Panthers as well.

On the other hand, Woods is currently in the midst of his first season as the San Francisco 49ers defensive backs and passing game coordinator. He originally made his way to San Francisco after spending four seasons with the Denver Broncos. His first two seasons in Denver were spent as the team's defensive backs coach before transitioning to the role of defensive coordinator.
