The Phoenix Suns are just one win away from the NBA Finals, and Devin Booker knows how special the moment is for his veteran teammate Chris Paul.

After the Suns took a 3-1 lead against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference Finals, Booker spoke about the fact that it is just CP3's second career appearance in the said stage, with an NBA title berth yet to come. He also mentioned what Paul told them after they defeated the Denver Nuggets to book their ticket to the conference finals–words that motivated the whole team to give it their all.

“I have a lot of respect for him as a man, not even as a basketball player. Just understanding how bad he wants this, and how much time he’s put into it. Sixteen years, that’s a long time,” Booker said of Paul, per SB Nation.

“When we made the Western Conference Finals, he’s like ‘I've only been here one time.' So we know how bad he wants it. Same with coach Monty, I get that same feeling from him. Me and Deandre are sitting here, and Mikal, this is our first time in (the playoffs). It’s a little spoiled but it came with a lot of work. But we definitely have his back.”

Chris Paul made the West Finals in 2018 with James Harden and the Houston Rockets, and while he was also close to making it to the championship series, a hamstring injury kept him out of Games 6 and 7 and doomed their chances.

With that said, it is surely saddening to hear Paul talk about his conference finals experience and the fact that he has yet to make his first NBA Finals appearance. But it also serves as motivation to keep him and his teammates hungry for a title.

Paul himself doesn't want to talk about it until they get the job done, and sure enough, a lot of people–not only Devin Booker and the Suns–are hoping they can close out the Clippers soon.
