Devin Booker set two franchise milestones during a 40-point, five-assist performance in a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Phoenix Suns phenom had his seventh career game with 40 points and five dimes, which is a new franchise record, while also putting up his sixth straight 30-point game, breaking a tie with Charles Barkley and Charlie Scott (twice) for the longest in franchise history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Booker has gotten some help this season with Ricky Rubio, Aron Baynes, and Dario Saric, among others, but he's still putting up studly numbers himself.
Booker is averaging 26.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this season — similar numbers to what he put up last season. Yet the Michigan native is doing so with mind-blowing efficiency, shooting 50.8% from the field and an automatic 91.1% from the foul line — a mark that is third-best in the league and a career high for the sharpshooter.
The Suns are only 3-3 through the last six games, though, a hard pill to swallow for a Suns team trying to steal the last seed in the West, but falling just shy of taking it from the San Antonio Spurs.
Phoenix is 3-7 in the last 10 games, yet still only one game behind the Spurs and a half-game from the Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, and Minnesota Timberwolves in a tight race for the eighth spot.
The Suns will need Booker to keep playing at this high level to sniff that playoff hope, and there is no indication he will slow down anytime soon after taking part in 33 of the team's 36 games this season. The youngster recently missed time with an arm injury but has been healthy besides that brief hiccup.
