Suns’ Kelly Oubre Jr. not surprised Wizards traded him

Kelly Oubre Jr., Suns, Wizards

Speaking for the first time as a member of the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, Kelly Oubre Jr. said he wasn’t surprised the Washington Wizards traded him.

The Suns acquired Kelly Oubre Jr., alongside the now departed Austin Rivers, in the Trevor Ariza trade.

“I wasn’t really surprised (to be traded), man,” Oubre told Bickley & Marotta on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “Anything can happen, it’s a business. I was just on the business side of basketball, so (now) I make a new home in Phoenix.”

“What I will say is that it was definitely a lot of changes and people have to adjust to change. The energy was just a little off. That’s kind of what led to that story coming out like that. I can’t really speak on that. I just try to control on what I can control.”

As has been the case for the last few years now, there were reports about the Wizards’ locker room being dysfunctional. Despite having a talented roster led by All-Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal, Washington is currently out of the playoff picture in the East.

Oubre Jr. is averaging 12.9 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Wizards this year, but Washington reportedly wasn’t confident they would be able to re-sign him in the summer when the swingman becomes a restricted free agent.
