Phoenix Suns guard Jimmer Fredette has never actually played for the Utah Jazz, but he did play his collegiate basketball at BYU, which is located in Utah.

Known for his ridiculous range from beyond the arc, Fredette became a Utah legend, and to this day, he is still beloved in the state.

That was on full display on Monday night, when Fredette checked into the game against the Jazz and received a massive ovation from the fans at Vivint Smart Home Arena:

Fredette must have had the jitters, as he ended up making just one of his 10 field-goal attempts in a 33-point loss.

The 30-year-old was playing in just his second game for the Suns this year. Phoenix signed him for the remainder of the season late last week.

Fredette had actually been out of the NBA the last two seasons, but back in 2011, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 10th overall pick of the NBA Draft. He was then immediately dealt to the Sacramento Kings, where he ended up playing in 61 games during his rookie campaign, averaging 7.6 points in over 18.6 minutes per game while shooting 38.6 percent from the floor and 36.1 percent from three-point range.

After two-and-a-half disappointing years with the Kings, Fredette was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he lasted all of eight games.

The Glens Falls, N.Y. native then spent time with the New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks before finding himself out of the league entirely for a couple of seasons.

He owns a lifetime average of six points per game.
