While the DC Universe won't be hitting theaters until 2025, the budding cinematic universe has already put together an eclectic cast of characters and actors to occupy it. Superman, alone, already has plenty of DC characters alongside the titular Man of Steel, and the cast has gotten a little bigger with the addition of a notable Saturday Night Live alumni.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that actor and comedian Beck Bennett, best known for his tenure on SNL, is set to join the cast of James Gunn's Superman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While it was not clear who he would be playing, the outlet's sources claim Bennett will be portraying “one of the notable reporters” working alongside Clark Kent and Lois Lane at the Daily Planet.

Bennett's joins an already sizeable cast being led by David Corenswet as Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Ladies and Gentlemen…Beck Bennett

While Bennett performed regularly in improv and sketch comedy groups since his college days, where he would meet his friend and future-SNL castmate Kyle Mooney. Bennett's onscreen career would then begin in 2012 with his appearance in the comedy film Kill Me Now, which featured multiple sketch and improv groups.

His biggest break would come in 2013, when he joined SNL in its 39th season as one of the cast's featured players. The comedian immediately became known as arguably the most stoic performer in the cast, who very rarely broke character during sketches.

Bennett would serve as a featured player until he was promoted to one of the starring performers in SNL's 41st season that began in October of 2015. He ultimately departed the show at the conclusion of its 46th season, which ran from October 2020 to May 2021, ending Bennett's eight-year run on the show.

Since departing SNL, the comedian and actor has found steady work across film and TV in various supporting roles. His work in 2024 included a supporting role in Jerry Seinfeld's directorial debut, Unfrosted, along with an appearance as a judge for Netflix's Is It Cake, hosted by SNL cast member Mikey Day.

Even without the addition of Bennett, Superman is already shaping up to be a massive kickoff to the DCU on the theatrical front.

Up in the Sky!

The little that has been teased about the film's plot will see Superman exploring and trying to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. Gunn has also said Lex Luthor will serve as the main villain for the film, but he has not gone into detail about what will bring Luthor and Superman to blows in the new film.

Alongside Superman, Lane, and Luthor, the film is set to feature a whole host of other heroes and comic characters from across DC Comics' history. Some of the characters confirmed to be appearing include Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Mister Terrific, and the Engineer, with the Engineer reportedly helping set up The Authority's announced film.

Superman is scheduled to release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
