ClutchPoints Gaming chatted with Team Heretics jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski before the LEC Winter 2024 Season began – here's everything he told us.

Jankos has High Hopes for “Dark Horse” Team Heretics

It's barely been a month into 2024 and it has already been an eventful year for Jankos – celebrating one decade of competing in professional League of Legends, reuniting with old teammates Luka “Perkz” Perković and Martin “Wunder” Hansen, and the jungle role being significantly affected by the League of Legends Season 2024 changes.

Team Heretics is currently 2-1 after the first week of LEC Winter 2024 Season, losing to MAD Lions KOI in their debut match but bringing it back with wins against Rogue and GIANTX.

Q: How does it feel being reunited with Wunder and Perkz?

Jankos: I think it feels nice. I feel like all of us came here to win and that makes me happy. I believe Wunder and Perkz both had different offers and I think they actually would get paid more if they didn't join [Team Heretics]. They chose to reunite because they thought that their biggest chance of winning was in this team.

I'm very curious about how it's going to look like. Of course, I have very high hopes as well.

Q: Thoughts on the in-houses?

Jankos: Solo queue was an option, but the in-houses have the new map. I think [the in-houses] were fun but I also believe that solo queue is slightly more friendly toward trying new champions. In in-houses, you don't really want to always int your team.

The in-house teams can sometimes be very unbalanced – there are games that are LEC player-heavy heavy and those tend to be balanced but there are some games where you have a bunch of LEC players against ERL players and the game is not really that playable.

I do enjoy [the in-houses], but I also think that solo queue is needed and I can't wait for the patch to be out in solo queue so I can test champions without talking to my team. You don't always want to talk to the team after seven hours of scrims talking to the team. Sometimes you need to relax and focus on the game, not necessarily on the communication aspect.

Q: As a jungler, how do you feel about the League of Legends Season 2024 changes?

Jankos: I do think that ganking lanes is harder. Voidgrubs are very strong if you get 5 to 6, it's a big power spike so the early game will be important. Invading is easier especially from the red side onto the blue side, so I feel like having winning lanes is more OP than it was last year.

Q: Your message to the fans and viewers?

Jankos: I don't know how good we will do, but the goal is to be the best and to win the championship – I feel like we are capable of it. But looking at the previous year where Flakked and I didn't finish very high, Perkz and Kaiser were 10th [place], and Wunder wasn't even playing until the finals, then I do think we're definitely a dark horse if we win.

We are not the favorites, and I think that's perfectly fine. I think we need to prove it with our ability to play the game and with our skill.

I'm looking forward to the season and I really hope you do too. We have really, really cool changes to the LEC studio and the stage looks completely sick. I'm looking forward to playing and competing.
