Zach LaVine's participation in the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA got quite the scare when he entered the COVID-19 health and safety protocols. After all, it was only a couple of days since Bradley Beal had to give up his spot due to the same issue.

Fortunately, LaVine was fine and was able to re-join Team USA in Tokyo after he had to stay behind until he is cleared to play. According to the Chicago Bulls star, though, he never had any doubts that he'd be able to pass all the tests to be able to play for the national team in time for the basketball games.

However, he did emphasize the need to go through the protocol to keep everybody safe.

“Obviously, (I) didn’t think I could get it (COVID-19). Obviously, I didn’t but they have to be careful with everybody coming over here. It made sense. I just pretty much had to do my time and jump through a couple hoops to get here,” LaVine said, per NBC Sports. “I didn’t want to put anybody at harm. I didn’t want to be at harm. So we just had to make sure everything was OK before I got here.”

Zach LaVine's presence is certainly a huge boost for Team USA, especially after Bradley Beal's shocking exit. With an explosive scorer gone, the Bulls high-flyer might need to fill the void on the offensive end and take the lead.

Luckily for Team USA, LaVine didn't need a lot of time in the health and safety protocols. He did say he had to produce “a numerous amount of negative tests,” but hey, that's a small price to pay for what he called a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the Olympics.
