Bandai Namco's upcoming fighting game, Tekken 8, has its release date soon by January 26, 2024. With all the confirmed characters that will be appearing in the Tekken 8 roster, how will the Tekken 8 storyline be? Let's take a quick recap of what has happened for the past seven games of the Tekken franchise and forecast what is yet to come and be expected in the game's latest edition. Tekken fans are given a great treat with a “Story So Far” by Brian Cox himself. Let's all look back at the rich history of The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

The Story So Far: Tekken 8 Storyline

Looking back on 1994, Tekken 1 was released with only a few characters to play with. This included names that are already staples in the popular fighting game such as Anna Williams, Armor King, Devil, Ganryu, Heihachi Mishima, Jack, Kazuya Mishima, King, Kuma, Kunimitsu, Lee Chaolan, Marshall Law, Michelle Chang, Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, Wang Jinrei, and Yoshimitsu. These characters have been twisted into the storyline that we all know and love.

The Three Men of Tekken

The Tekken 8 storyline revolves around its plethora of unique roster but mainly focuses on three people: Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya Mishima, and Jin Kazama. Back in the first edition of the game, Tekken 1, Heihachi Mishima knew that Kazuya was a threat to humanity given that he has the Devil Gene. This particular trait is passed down to generations and allows the person to transform into a powerful winged demon that wields incredible strength and power. This prompted Heihachi to try and kill his son back when he was only 5 years old which was revealed in the game. Heihachi threw Kazuya down into a cliff but he survived the terrible drop. He then trains to become a deadly fighter and ultimately defeats his father in the first King of the Iron Fist Tournament. In a matter of poetic justice, Kazuya threw his father down onto a cliff.

Kazuya's Fate

Years later, Kazuya's hatred continued to grow stronger and was even more sinister than his father, Heihachi, ever was. Despite all this, there was one particular woman who believed in the good that was left inside of Kazuya, the animal rights activist, Jun Kazama. Together, they would have a child who is the protagonist of Tekken 3, Jin Kazama. Jin grew up not knowing who his father was, not knowing that he also possessed the Devil Gene within him. His mother passed away after a tragedy and so he sought out his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, where he was trained in the Mishima fighting ways.

Grandfather's Betrayal

Heihachi knew that this was the perfect chance for him to get back at Kazuya knowing that Jin also has the Devil Gene, so he uses him to his advantage. Towards the end of Tekken 3, Heihachi betrays his grandson and shoots him point-blank range in the face. However, this was not enough to bring down Jin, he would later on transform into something peculiar that he did not know he could do.

The End of an Icon

Time and time again, these men would fight off against each other even going as far as launching both Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima out to space tied up to a rocket. During the most recent King of the Iron Fist Tournament, Kazuya faced off against his father, Heihachi, and ultimately bested him in battle. To savor the moment and end the qualm between them once and for all, Kazuya threw Heihachi into a volcano.

The World in Shambles in the Tekken 8 Storyline

In Tekken 8, Jin Kazama takes on his father, Kazuya Mishima who is threatening the peace of the world and dominating it for himself. Since Jin Kazama is the only person who can level with his father's power given that both of them possess the Devil Gene within them, he is the only chance that the world has to attain peace once again. With Kazuya's global control almost to full fruition, Jin Kazama resurfaced and is now fully healed, ready to take on his father. He is poised and focused to take down his father, becoming the latest King of the Iron Fist Tournament champion, and saving the world in the process. Will Jin be able to accomplish his goal? Or will we see the end of the world as we know it?
