It's been a wild time for the Houston Texans lately, but the franchise finally has some good news for the fan base. After deciding to fire David Culley, it looks like the front office is zeroing in on Lovie Smith to be the next head coach for the team. We'll see how it plays out, as Houston is in the middle of a rebuild.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Texans are heading in the direction to name Lovie Smith their new head coach. The official announcement has been made. Houston replaces David Culley for Lovie Smith, who is an experienced coach that aims to right the sinking ship.
The #Texans are moving towards naming Lovie Smith their head coach for 2022, sources tell @TomPelissero, @MikeGarafolo and me.
No deal is done, but it’s headed that way.

When the Texans moved on from David Culley, it felt like the front office might have had a bigger name in their sights. Houston went through an extensive head coaching search and had a difficult time gauging interest from the candidates. Considering there were reports of the team being interested in Brian Flores, his lawsuit against the NFL might have deterred them from hiring him altogether.
That is speculation and is simply an idea as to why the Texans fired Culley for Smith. Lovie Smith has plenty of experience, however, having him take over as the head coach feels like a lateral move for Houston. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the head coaching position, but as long as he wins games he should be fine.
Look for Houston to have a busy offseason, as the Texans must find a way to get their roster back under control.
